About the journal
Globsyn Management Journal (GMJ) is a bi-annual double blind reviewed management research journal of Globsyn Business School (GBS) Kolkata, India. Its objective is to contribute to a better understanding of organizations and their functioning by presenting conceptually sound and methodologically rigorous articles which provide insights and advance knowledge on managerial, business and organization issues

. A typical issue of the journal would carry a mix of research articles, book reviews, perspectives and interfaces. Research Articles would be analytical and/or empirical in nature and focus on the analysis and resolution of managerial issues in organizations. Book Reviews would present reviews of current books on various domains of management. Perspectives would aim to identify and highlight emerging issues and paradigms in management and Interfaces would present articles from professionals focusing on managerial applications of management practices, theories, and concepts. Case Studies would aim at an intensive analysis of a real life decision taken at the individual or the organizational level, which may be functional, operational or strategic in nature.

The Journal tries to maintain a balance between purely research-oriented articles and those based purely on the experiences of practitioners involved in different areas of management. The journal is an imperative addition to the libraries and it is also suitably priced.

The author/s’ name should not appear anywhere else on the body of the manuscript to facilitate the blind review process. The articles should be in clear, coherent and concise English. Review and Acceptance

The review process followed by Globsyn Management Journal is systematic and thorough. Inappropriate or weak submissions are not forwarded for a formal review. Those considered appropriate are put through a double blind review process that may take between three to four months. Author/s may be asked to revise and resubmit a manuscript based on the referees’ comments.

Once an article is accepted, a camera-ready copy of it (the final version) must be sent in a CD to the editor. The CD should not contain any other files (i.e., not related to the article being submitted). In case of multiple authors, all correspondence would be done with the first author, unless otherwise stated. For this, the author must provide an easily contactable email address or phone number/fax so that the editorial office can get in touch with the author in case of queries during the copy-editing stage.

Article title:  Management Style As Moderator Of The Relationship Between Small Firm Financing And Performance: An Application To Lao Trading Firms
Abstract: While most of management literature has applied environment as moderator of strategy on firm performance, internal factors as moderating effects of firm financing strategy on the performance seem to be neglected. This paper applies moderator approach to investigate whether or not management style strengthens the relationship between firm financing and performance of 137 small trading firms in the Lao PDR over period 2002-2004. The results confirmed that management style is a quasi moderator to strengthen debt financing of small firm and performance, while it acts as pure moderator for equity financing-performance relationship. Small firm managed by owner utilizes both debt and equity financing to enhance performance more than firm managed by outsider manager. However, small firms that realize on debt financing should be investigated in further researches on the effect in the long-term performance.

Article title: Talent Management: An Improved Approach Using Human Resource Economics (HRE)
Abstract: In the currently popular approach to Talent Management, proposed by Buckingham and Clifton (2005), although path-breaking, the thematic concepts on ‘strengths’ appear to be somewhat subjective from the day-to-day practical human resource management and development points of view. The recommended techniques for talents identification are also cumbersome and time-consuming. Besides, there is no clear indication in published literature whether these two outstanding experts have taken serious account of the basic importance of satisfaction of every individual’s creaturely psychological needs for motivational purposes; as, unless motivationally charged, no human strength or talent can manifest itself in its highest positive form. Ganguli (2007) proposed the concept of HRE (Human Resource Economics) to introduce a new set of terms (and, perhaps a new language form ultimately) to describe the powers associated with the ‘body’ and the ‘brain’ – the entirely personal two inherent resource components of every human being. He introduced the concept of UBP (Unique Buying Proposition) in the case of every ordinary, commonplace human resource and also the T (Thinker)-P (Planner)- D (Doer) model for studying human behaviour in the group or team situation. In the present article, the author is going to show that the use of HRE (Human Resource Economics)-based concepts like UBP, WPP (Working Personality Principle), Change Agent and Personal Branding have more objective potential for the practice of Talent Management in organisations.

Article title: Expatriate Managers And Corporate-Level International Strategy: A Conceptual Study
Abstract:  This paper proposes a framework for managing expatriate assignments in the context of corporate-level objectives. Drawing upon the knowledge-based theory of the firm, the knowledge acquisition and integration is a primary goal for most expatriate assignments. The relationship between expatriate managers and MNC headquarters from an agency perspective are considered and the notion of a knowledge contract as a means of governing that relationship has been discussed. Here four corporate-level international strategies available to MNCs (global, international, transnational, and multi-domestic) are examined and discussed about the extent of agency problems under each strategy. This allows making specific predictions about the type of knowledge contract that is most likely to address agency problems for each strategy type.

Article title: E-Filing of TDS Returns: A Perceptual Study of Tax Consultants
Abstract: The information age has opened new business and social development opportunities throughout the world. The core requirement to realize these opportunities is to provide an environment that allows for the free access of information. Presently, government organizations are operating in a more demanding and uniquely challenging environment. E-governance is an innovative change introduced by the government organizations to cope with the dynamically changing environment.  E-governance is an evolving subject area not just in India but also in all developed and developing countries. Developed countries are little ahead in e-governance efforts. In India, government is taking some positive steps in utilizing information technology, even though there is a long way to go. The Income Tax department is paying a lot of emphasis on technology - the scheme of e-filing of TDS returns is a step towards e-governance. The study analyzes the perception of practicing tax consultants of Indore city to determine the acceptability of e-filing of TDS returns.
